Instagram Stories Tips and Tricks to Try Today

By September 27, 2018 No Comments

In case you’ve been living under a rock or more likely have just been really busy, Instagram Stories are all the rage right now.

Get this: as of June 2018, there were 400 million Instagram user stories posted DAILY.  And that’s an increase of 100 million from less than a year before that. That is a crazy stat!

It tells us two really important things. Your customers are on Instagram Stories and so are your competitors!

So how can you make your stories interesting and stand out? I put together a list of tips and tricks you can try today to add some ‘oomph’ to your Instagram Stories!

Use Your Brand Colors In Stories

Since Instagram Stories are only posted for 24 hours, you might feel like you don’t need to make sure your branding is consistent on the Stories too. Wrong! If you’re posting from your business handle, then you need to take the time to make your branding front and center. You can do this easily by at least adding your brand’s colors to your stories. All you need to do is hold down the eye dropper when you’re selecting your text colors and find yours!

People LOVE Instagram Stories Polls

Polls are one of my favorite functionalities of Instagram Stories because they directly engage your audience and give you real, timely feedback. That’s a win-win! Want some feedback on a new logo or a topic you should cover next on your blog? Throw up a poll on your Instagram Stories and check out what your audience has to say.

Add Some Font Fun with Shadowing Text

With so many people using Instagram and Stories, we have to be ultra-creative with what we’re doing on our Stories. A fun little trick to try is layering text so that you get a cool layering look. All you need to do is create two text areas with different colors and then move them so that they overlap. Check out these pics and try it yourself!

Become an Artist

I’m not a great artist but I do have some fun in Instagram Stories! Channel your inner kindergartner and have some fun drawing!

Save Your Instagram Pics to Your Camera Roll

So what if you spend time on your Stories and end up making a really well-designed image? You don’t want that to disappear forever after all of your hard work! Well, no problem, you can select a setting to save all of your Stories directly to your camera roll, which means you can access them later and re-use them! People forget quickly. Re-purpose your content!

Go to Settings > Scroll down to Story Controls > Saving > turn on ‘Save to Camera Roll’ and “Save to Archive’

Mix Up Your Fonts

This is also a quick tip that can make a big impact on the visual quality of your Instagram Stories. By mixing the pre-set fonts, you’ll stand out right away from other Stories on your audience’s feed. You can mix and match to get the feel you’re looking for – and don’t forget to add your brand colors!

Play with Font Sizes & Colors

Get clever with your font sizes and colors. Type each word individually. Stretch for sizing. Some big, some small. Use several colors to create a story that will pop!

Use Canva

If you really want to step your Instagram Stories design game up, I highly recommend using the free online design tool, Canva.com. You can set up a free account in no time and get access to literally thousands of different templates. It’s really easy and fun to use, and once you get the hang of it, it will totally change your design game, and not just for your Instagram Stories. When creating an Instagram story, the width is 1080 and the height is 1920.

Be YOU

I included this tip last, but it could be the first tip because I think it’s incredibly important.

People want to see the authentic you so be sure to share things other than your business or services, show who you are and your passion. Don’t forget to use your sense of humor, style, and point of view and share your authentic self!
