Valentine’s Day decor is so simple and fun. After all the big holidays are over you don’t want a bunch of clutter in your house again. So keep it simple and subtle.
And just like that, January is almost over and love is in the air.
I am not a bright red hearts kind of Valentine’s day girl. Does that make me a Valentine’s Scrooge? I can live with that.
I think all those years of Valentine’s cards and elementary school parties full of bright red hearts did me in.
Instead, I use a palette of muted pinks and burgundies. The softness of these colors works much better with my neutral base than bright red.
I don’t go overboard with my Valentine’s Day decor. It’s a quick holiday. You don’t feel like decorating in January, you just got all the clutter out of your house, so you really only have a couple of weeks. So keep it simple, subtle and light.
As always, candles are my go to. Inexpensive heart shaped candles are a great addition.
Speaking of hearts, I am loving these felt hearts. I have them in several bowls in the house. They are a great way to add hearts into your decor.
I tried to find a garland for my fireplace online that I liked but everything was red and bright. So I asked JJ to cut out hearts for me and paint them black. I then strung them with twine and I love how they turned out.
Adding blush tapers to your black or brass candlesticks is a great way to subtly add Valentine’s day decor.
Is it even Valentine’s Day without flowers and candy? Roses are always beautiful but they tend to jack up the prices in February. Call around and if you have a Trader Joe’s in your area, start there! If you can’t find reasonably priced roses, choose flowers that are blush, corals and purples and arrange them in a vases of all shapes and sizes.
Who doesn’t love Valentine’s Day candy? Hearts with fun sayings, cherry cordials, Reese’s hearts. Give me all the candy. Throw your favorites into jars and heart shaped candy bowls.
Pillow covers and throws with pink and burgundy shades are a great way to add pops of Valentine’s Day decor. Choose covers and throws without hearts so you can leave them out after the holiday is over.
Prints are a great way to add a subtle Valentine’s feel. Etsy and Amazon are a great resource for inexpensive prints.
In the kitchen add a couple of heart shaped wooden spoons, a heart shaped cutting board and some candies in a jar on the island.
